Erica Brennes

A proud native of Austin, Erica has a passion for helping you with your morning commute, and covering all things Austin transportation. Erica has watched the skyline and the roads change in her hometown since 1996, when she started as a freshman at Austin High School.

Erica then graduated from Texas State University and started her career as a news anchor and reporter in Wichita Falls, Texas, then spent three years anchoring and reporting in Waco, Texas, before coming back home in 2009.

“I’ve always had a good sense of direction, and I became a self proclaimed traffic nerd when I first started reporting on Austin traffic in 2012,” Erica said. Erica spent three years covering Austin traffic, then two years at RideScout, a ground transportation mobile app that was founded here in Austin.

“I am so thrilled to be part of the KXAN team, and as the traffic anchor, I get to cover something people like to talk (or complain) about, and something that impacts us all,” Erica said. “Access to quality transportation is essential to a thriving human experience.”

Erica is not only passionate about Austin traffic, but she loves embracing all things digital content and has created an online community of Austin moms through her social media channels and blog, Real Mom, Real Tired.

In her spare time, you can catch Erica hanging out with friends and family around Austin. She and her daughter love going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival every year, and you’ll likely spot them at DKR Memorial Stadium during Texas Football games.

“If you see BEVO, you won’t have to look far to find my husband!” Erica has embraced all things burnt orange and her husband, Ricky, is the Executive Director of the Silver Spur Alumni Association, and manages everything related to BEVO, the live mascot for the University of Texas.
