BASTROP - A Bastrop pool and landscaping contractor was booked into the Bastrop County jail over the weekend after being charged with theft by check. KXAN has been investigating Louis "Tuffy" Davis for months.
KXAN first told you about Louis "Tuffy" Davis back in August. He was the owner of TD Landscape Design and The Outdoor Marketplace in Bastrop, before he shut down both businesses and filed for bankruptcy.
Davis left dozens of projects incomplete and owes millions of dollars to more than 100 creditors. Davis admitted in a meeting of creditors in the bankruptcy case that he used new customers' money to pay contractors on past projects.
Now, Davis has been indicted on a separate matter. He turned himself in to law enforcement this last weekend. He is charged with theft of property by check which is a state jail felony.
The indictment alleges Davis wrote a check for a "playset" on June 21st knowing he did not have sufficient funds in his account to cover the amount of the check which, according to the indictment was more than $1,500 but less than $20,000.
