BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Bastrop County sits downstream on the Colorado River and the recent rains are causing it to rise. While no evacuations have been ordered, everyone has been warned to have a plan in case the rain keeps coming.
"It's kinda amazing that water can just take over, said Dan Comfort.
A gauge on the Colorado River slowly inched up throughout the day, topping out around 20 feet.
Right now, it's not too much to worry about... in fact, it's kind of exciting.
"This is exciting and different for us because it has been such a drought area," said Mary Jane Brown.
But as the rain keeps falling, the river will keep rising, and that excitement could wane.
There are several homes that sit along the river. So far, they are safe, and the river as expected to crest below flood levels.
A person was reported missing for more than an hour near the Colorado River in a Smithville neighborhood, Bastrop County authorities said Monday.
The person, who was not identified, was last seen before 1 p.m. in the Doty River Estates, officials said. The person was found around 2:30.
It was not immediately clear if the rising Colorado River from the recent rains was a factor.
