AUSTIN (KXAN) - The body of Lucia Rodriguez, 33, was pulled from Lake Austinearly Monday. She was a dancer who performed seven seasons withBallet East Dance Theatre.
The initial call to police came in from a boater who spotted asubmerged, silver, four-door car in Lake Austin around 6:30 a.m.Monday. Investigators said they think the woman was driving thecar, which was found around 70 feet from shore near a boat ramp in Mary Quinlan Park.
Initial evidence indicate the woman was headed home, got lostand drove down a boat ramp into the lake. Police speculated whenthe car hit the water, the woman attempted to get out of thevehicle to make it back to shore.
"She was able to get out of the car, and subsequently trying toget from the car back to the shore, unfortunately she died," saidAPD Sgt. Richard Stresing.
Austinpolice received the report of a missing woman on Sunday nightfrom a man. The description of the vehicle matches the car that wasfound in the lake.
A man is dead after being hit by several vehicles in the eastbound lane of Highway 71 Saturday night.
