PARAMARIBO, Suriname (CNN) - They're cute. They're gentle, and they're very slow-moving animals.
Sloths are endangered in some parts of the world, where their rain forest habitat is threatened.
And one woman from the South American country of Suriname has rescued about 200, finding them a temporary new home.
"The one that you see here is a three-toed sloth, has three toes on all four legs," said devoted caretaker Monique Pool. "Relaxed animals. Sometimes they play with each other but they're very, very easy to live with."
Pool said the babies want to be held the most because normally they stay with their mothers for 12 months.
"The three that are left, we try to give them a lot of love, and you know," said Pool. "Somebody called me from the Animal Protection Society -- the chairman -- and she knew there were 14 sloths in an area that was going to be deforested."
Pool said when they saw sloths, they we would wait until the tree was pushed and then just pluck them out of the trees.
"However, there were more than 14 sloths. There were more than 200," said "So the new habitat where they're going is protected. It's supervised, so they will be safe."
Most animals came and went within a week, so there were nights where Pool had 30- to 40 animals with her all at once.
"I always think that finally the last one was gone, but I get regular rescue calls," said Pool. "There are two- to three animals passing through here on a weekly basis."
