BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending July 6 dropped from the previous week's total.
The state labor department figures released Friday show 2,084 initial claims compared to 3,027 a week earlier. The shortened work week because of the July 4th holiday contributed to the sharp decrease.
The four-week moving average of initial claims decreased to 2,763 from the previous week's average of 3,181.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending July 6 decreased to 25,008 compared to the previous week's total of 25,389.
The four-week moving average of such claims increased to 24,849 from the previous week's average of 24,505.
