Report: I-35 most congested highway in Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A new report shows what many Austinites already know; I-35 in Austin is the most congested highway in the entire state of Texas.

The new report was released by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. The report states driving on I-35 between U.S. 290 and 71 takes two-and-a-half times longer in peak traffic than in light traffic.

Every year I-35 causes drivers to spend almost one million hours in delays for every mile traveled on the Interstate. That's at an annual congestion cost of more than $200-million.

The study also ranked I-35 from 71 to Slaughter Lane as the 24th most congested stretch of road in Texas.

Mopac also made the list from 183 to 360 as the 29th most congested stretch of road in the state.

The other top 30 congested highways are in Harris, Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
