BUDA (KXAN) - Outside the Inbody home in Hays County, flags fly proudly in thewind; one for the USA and the other for the U.S. Army.
Jeannine Inbody said the hardest part is waiting for word. TheInbody's waiting is marked by a blue star flag in the window.It is a tradition that goes back to World War One and is meant toshow people on the outside that a family is waiting for a soldierto come home from War.
"It's a combination of being proud of them- and scared todeath," said Don Inbody, whose son, 1st Lieutenant David Inbody,was wounded in Afghanistan July 15.
David Inbody was part of a 70 member Agriculture DevelopmentTeam from the Texas Army National Guard deployed to Afghanistan tohelp the Afghan people modernize their farming techniques.
"He was particularly proud that they were educating the womenhow to do this and setting them up with a business- a smallbusiness," said David's mom, Jeannine.
Lt. Inbody was riding in an MRAP vehicle when his convoy hit aroadside bomb on July 15. Inbody has serious injuries to his footand two others in his vehicle were also injured.
"We've had 2 actual phone calls with Dave and that's been thebest to actually hear his voice," said Jeannine. "We don't reallyknow the full extent of the outcome but we're just hopeful that itwill all heal and I just can't wait to get a hold of him and I'msure he can't wait for us to get there."
Inbody is recovering from surgery at Walter Reed Army MedicalCenter in Washington, D.C. before being transferred to Brook ArmyMedical Center in San Antonio.
Tradition says the blue star flag stays in the window untila soldier makes it home safely.
"I'm very proud of what he was doing- and it was something thathe had to do," said Don Inbody.
That pride will keep those other flags outside the Inbody homeflying long after David makes it home.
