AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin teen faces drug charges after being arrested at schoolwith two Xanax pills in his pocket and no prescription.
Police also suspected him to be under the influence of Xanax, abenzodiazepine typically prescribed for anxiety and/ordepression.
On Friday at the Austin Can Academy, school officials noticedCarlos Solis, 17, seemed to be under the influence of drugs. Aftercalling him to the front office, Solis was searched, where twoXanax pills were discovered on him.
When questioned, Solis told police he was prescribed the pillsby his doctor. Solis was not able to give the doctor's name or forwhat condition they were prescribed.
The Austin Can Academy is an "educational institution that's goal is to provide a secondchance for at-risk youth and their families to achieve economicindependence and hope for better life through relationship-basededucation and training."
Solis is charged with a state-jail felony charge of possessionof a controlled substance on school grounds. If convicted, he facesup to two years in jail and a $10,000 fine.
