NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas (KXAN) - A six-year-old boy that went missing Sunday afternoon was found dead Monday morning in the Comal River in New Braunfels.
New Braunfels dive teams found the child at 8:40 A.M. about 25 feet from the shoreline near the area where he was last seen on Sunday.
New Braunfels Police say Xabier Martinez went missing Sunday evening near the area of Hinman Island Park. His family noticed they had not seen the child for more than 40 minutes and notified police.
New Braunfels Police, New Braunfels Fire Department Dive Team and a DPS helicopter began searching for the boy until the sun went down and the search was halted.
Search teams continued their search Monday morning at sunrise when it was safe for divers to reenter the water.
The incident remains under investigation.
