FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - AmericanAirlines says seven puppies died after being put on an Americanjet from Tulsa, Okla., to Chicago.
The Fort Worth-based airline says it contacted the shipper whoput the puppies on the Tuesday morning flight and is investigatingfurther.
Airline spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan said Wednesday theshipper put 14 puppies aboard Flight 851 scheduled to leave Tulsaat 6:30 a.m. It was delayed an hour by weather conditions inChicago.
Fagan says baggage handlers taking the puppies to a kennel areaat O'Hare Airport grew concerned because they looked lethargic.
She says employees tried to cool down the dogs. They were takento a vet's office, but five died initially and two others diedlater.
