AUSTIN (KXAN) - Voters will be asked to decide on Proposition 1 -- Central Health in November's election.
The proposition would increase the property tax rate in Travis County by 5 cents per $100 of value.
Clarke Heidrick, from Central Health, explained to KXAN News Today the extra money would help develop a medical school at the University of Texas, improve outpatient specialty care and better manage care.
It could also help bring a trauma and teaching hospital to Seton. Something Heidrick says, Seton has offered to pay for.
The project for Proposition 1 has been worked on for over a year, led by Texas Senator Kirk Watson.
According to Heidrick, a UT medical school in Austin could help care for an aging population.
It could also help improve medical shortages. In four years central Texas could be short 740 medical positions.
