ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) - It's about the scariest thing a parent can imagine, someone, possibly a sex offender, trying to snatch your child.
Round Rock police issued a safety alert to all parents Friday. They said a convicted sex offender may be trying to pick up female juveniles. Several attempts have reportedly been made.
Since no apparent crime has been committed, police cannot make an arrest, and his name is not being released.
A description of the man, however, is available. He is described as being in his late 30s or 40s, with short hair and a beard, and was driving a black F-150 or Silverado.
Before Spring Break, a man with that description tried to pick up a girl in eastern Round Rock, near Red Bud Lane and Forest Creek Drive. That girl got in his vehicle and was driven to her home.
A few days later a similar attempted pick up occurred in Austin.
The news has residents on alert.
"Tell your kids don't talk to strangers," Round Rock grandparent Tim Allen said. "Never get in a car with someone you don't know. Stay away from them."
While the news may not come as a surprise, it's still too close to home.
"I believe it can happen any place," concerned dad Peter Huston said. "There's bad people all over and you've got to be careful with your children."
Round Rock police say if you see someone matching their description, please call 911.
