MILAM COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) - Milam County Sheriff's Office deputies assisted state officers on Thursday as they arrested Buckholts Police Chief James Blackmon.
A warrant was served on Blackmon at the Buckholts Police Department at about 4:15 p.m. by officers representing the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
Director of Agency Operations John Helenberg said TCLEOSE received an anonymous complaint from a subject on June 20. The tipster stated he had some concerns how police officers were hired in the city of Buckholtz.. He didn't feel that the administrators were doing the background checks. He also stated that those officers were not full-time officers with the city, but Blackmon had issued them full-time identification cards.
Officials said the reason for prosecuting Blackmon were:
- The appointment applications sent to TCLEOSE were incomplete, while he claimed all the statutory information had been completed but it had not been
- He declared that all the officers were full-time officers, but that was not the case, but claimed there were 10 full-time officers, when there are only two full-time officers on staff.
Officials launched the investigation on the June 20 and ultimately decided there was a substantiated complaint. They discussed the case with the district attorney and agreed to prosecute Blackmon, as a criminal case and administrative case which will involve revocation of his license.
Blackmon is being charged with falsifying a government document, a Class A misdemeanor. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Milam County Jail where he was booked.
Bond has yet to be set by the magistrate.
