WIMBERLEY (KXAN) - Thursday morning's slew of heavy rain forced emergency evacuations in the Wimberley area. Once the water went down, people returned to flooded homes with a mess to clean up.
"This is where my kids played with toys and games and we ate dinner out here," said Christina Stoever who lives in Woodcreek, a neighborhood in Wimberley. "Now it's a place where you can grab some mulch if you want to mulch your yard."
Her parent's were forced to evacuate when the creek next to their house started to swell. When they came back the found the entire house was flooded. Debris entered their sun room and their backyard landscaping was ruined.
Hays County ordered emergency evacuations Thursday morning in the Wimberley area, including Cypress Creek from the Blanco River to Woodcreek.
Barbara Lee, who owns Leeway Cottages, said the heavy rains swelled Cypress Creek so quickly they had to evacuate.
"I mean there was water all over, it was like a river in your yard," Lee said. "We had watched earlier my picnic tables and also a big huge wooden swing just one at a time just picked up by the water and just carried on down."
The Hays County website listed several locations people in Wimberley, San Marcos and Buda could take shelter in.
