AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The fences from Austin City Limits are still up in Zilker Park, but now workers are getting it ready to host a different kind of show. Crews are about to begin setting up for the annual Trail of Lights.
James Russell, executive director of the Trail of Lights Foundation, estimates at any given time over the next few weeks, they will have 40 to 60 workers setting up lights and decorations. Unlike ACL, the park will not be fenced off during set up.
This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Zilker Park tree. The 155 foot light tower-converted-into-a-tree was first lit on Dec. 10, 1967. This year people will see a spruced up version.
"It was down from April to August. They took it down, they cleaned everything, repaired everything and put in what will be LED lights," said Russell.
The tree will be lit Nov. 27. The Trail of Lights will open Dec. 10 and run through the 23.
