AUSTIN (KXAN) - An Austin woman was charged with a felony after police say her dogs attacked a man while he was on his morning walk.
The man was walking his dog along Dovemeadow Drive in Southeast Austin on July 15 when a pair of pit bulls escaped from a yard and attacked him, an affidavit released Wednesday said.
Maria Luisa Davila, 59, was charged with attack by dog, a third-degree felony.
The man noticed the dogs jumping excitedly next to a fence as he walked past. When he looked back, he saw the same three dogs loose in the street, the document said.
The dogs first approached him and his dog in a playful manner, but became increasingly more aggressive as he tried to pick up his smaller dog and place it in the back of a nearby truck, according to the affidavit.
Fearing for his life, the man tried to crawl into the back of the truck when one of the dogs grabbed his right leg and pulled him to the ground, the affidavit said. He told police the other then dog pulled him back to the ground after biting his arm, then thrashing it from side-to-side.
The dogs finally let loose and retreated to the house. The man told police only two dogs attacked him, while the third watched from a distance.
The man required several stitches to his arm and leg, and a doctor believed he also suffered nerve damage from bites to the elbow, the document said.
