AUSTIN (KXAN) - The 2013 football fight between Texas and Oklahoma will be the most affordable Red River Rivalry game in recent memory.

Typically one of the hottest tickets in all of college football, prices for this year’s game are selling below the $110 face value.
“We are seeing ticket prices down about 40% across the board from 2012,” said Meredith Owen with TicketCity.com.
In the 2012 season, the Red River Rivalry was one of TicketCity.com’s top 5 selling tickets in all of college football. But as of Tuesday afternoon, the tickets for Saturday’s game could be had for just $90.
“It is aligned with where we have seen prices for the Longhorns in the past few weeks,” said Owen.
Even games in Austin are cheaper to attend and there were several empty seats in the upper deck for the Sept. 21 home game against Kansas State. “If you are a Longhorn fan, now is the time to take all our family and friends to a game, Owen added.”
Although many variables can impact ticket prices, Owen points to one which is very hard to ignore. “Performance is an important variable for getting fans to the stadium,” he said.
Texas has struggled early on in the 2013 season and blowout losses to Oklahoma in recent years have some fans fearing and expecting the worst.
“People are predicting it is not going to be pretty,” said University of Texas student Amara Smith who will be attending a class retreat instead of the game.
The second weekend of the Austin City Limits music festival also provides an alternative weekend spectacle, but Owen does not believe it has played a huge role in the Texas-OU ticket nosedive.
“If any of those events had influence on the other, it would be folks not going to ACL weekend #2 and going to weekend #1 so they could make it to the game.”
But the cheap ticket market does not appear to be present throughout the entire Cotton Bowl. Using TicketCity.com’s interactive stadium map, there are no tickets below face value available on the south side of the Cotton Bowl.
What about the Oklahoma side? In one particular Texas section, tickets can be found for $92. Tickets in the mirrored section across the stadium are selling for $135.
