AUSTIN (KXAN) - One man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday in an incident that prompted the Austin police to evacuate an apartment complex.
Police said the man shot himself inside a unit at the Northland at Stone Hollow apartments near Metric Boulevard. After arriving, police called out SWAT and took extra precautions to make sure no one else was hurt. Evacuees were taken away on buses from Capital Metro.
APD received a check call a little after 5 p.m. When police arrived on scene they heard several shots fired, which prompted them to call SWAT and a bomb squad.
The man had barricaded himself in his apartment posing a threat to others which is why they evacuated several building. After hours of trying to negotiate police entered the apartment only to find the man dead.
"We were able to send in our bomb squad robot, inside the apartment, to have a look around. They located one male with a self-inflicted gun shot wound," said Police Capt. Wuthipong Tantaksinanukij.
