AUSTIN (KXAN) - The tent across from Bowie High School is the home of "Build it Now" headquarters, pushing for the construction of State Highway 45 Southwest.
According to Shady Hallow resident, Bill May, "We see more and more accidents each day as our neighbors try to pull out onto Brodie Lane or turn into their neighborhoods, not only at rush hour but any hour of the day."
Right of way for the roadway was acquired in the early 90s. Voters then approved the bonds for construction back in 1997. But they are still waiting for the project to break ground.
Previous precinct 3 county commissioner, Gerald Daugherty, supports the construction of the roadway and was with neighbors today under the tent. Daugherty was defeated as commissioner in 2008. Now he is running again to reclaim his lost seat.
Supporters of building the highway and Daugherty plan to volunteer at the headquarters of "Build It Now" until elections in November.
