AUSTIN (KXAN) - A man wanted in connection to five bank robberies in Austin, San Marcos and San Antonio was arrested on Tuesday.
Police say Randall Reed robbed a Prosperity Bank, Northstar Bank and Benchmark Bank in Austin, in addition to a Broadway Bank in San Antonio and another in San Marcos.
Reed is also accused of robbing a customer service center at a Randall's grocery store in Southwest Austin.
In each of the robberies, Reed used a weapon, and in his final robbery restrained the bank tellers. The aggravated robberies began in February 2013 and continued through July 26, 2013.
The latest robbery at a Benchmark Bank in Central Austin occurred just hours before Larry Eugene Jackson Jr. was shot and killed by an Austin police officer.
Police say around 4 p.m., Jackson tried to get into the Benchmark Bank at 1508 W. 35th Street but wasn't able to enter since the bank's doors were locked due to an ongoing robbery investigation that stemmed from earlier in the day.
Jackson later ran from an APD detective and was shot and killed under a bridge about 1/4 mile away from the bank.
Randall Reed is now in federal custody facing both bank robbery and firearms charges. Austin Police say Reed's arrest was a collaborative effort between three different police agencies as well as the FBI.
