AUSTIN (KXAN) - A 24-year-old father is accused of burning his 2-year-old daughter in scalding hot water as punishment during potty training.
Ira Kincheon is now facing first-degree felony charges of injury to a child.
"The victim's sister stated that the father pushed the victim in the sink because she didn't use the bathroom," said Austin Police Officer Jermaine Kilgore.
According to arrest affidavits, on Aug. 11 the girl had an accident on the floor. Kincheon admitted to police that he was upset and put her in the sink to teach her a lesson while cleaning the toddler, the document said.
"When I came outside they were bringing the little girl out and she was hollering and crying she was burned pretty bad," said neighbor Casandra Byrd. "That's not good parenting that just cruel."
The child was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center where officials alerted police and Child Protective Services.
Child Protective Services officials said they're working on a safety plan to protect Kincheon's four children. The officials did not specify if the toddler still lives in the same home as Kincheon.
