AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The owner of a barbeque restaurant in east Austin says he's been there for 40 years and doesn't plan on moving or selling out even if the number keeps growing.
Brian Mays, the owner of Sam's BBQ, says someone recently offered him $3 million for the property located at the corner of East 12th and Poquito Streets. Mays says he turned it down because his restaurant is important to the community.
As the buildings around him change, Mays is staying put. Mays says he is the last black-owned BBQ joint in the area.
"Because you have to support local old establishments that have been here forever and are still around," says Melissa Miller who was eating at Sam's BBQ with her husband. "Because so many new people are moving to Austin and changing the landscape."
