Foundation Communities, which assists families of limited means, will open two enrollment centers next month, and the goal is to help those needing insurance find the affordable coverage.
"I'm telling my mom now I need to grow up faster," Castillo said. "I don't know. I don't know what's going to happen, but my insurance is going to come off I guess."She understands the value of her Medicaid insurance more than most. Castillo is driving a car her dad helped her get after she was in a wreck.
The crash meant a trip to the ER and a prescription. Her Medicaid covered the cost, something she could not have done on her own.
Now, Castillo is hoping a new marketplace will offer an alternative.
"I mean, this is really life changing for someone who has been excluded from insurance and can now obtain health insurance," said Elizabeth Colvin, director of Insure Central Texas with Foundation Communities.Colvin also says confusion about the markets remain and she can't say for sure how much these plans will cost until the marketplace opens.
"But it could be that they have zero premium cost," said Colvin. "We don't know and that they're co-pays and their deductibles will all be greatly reduced."Here are the general income guidelines to qualify for subsidies in the marketplace:
- $11,490 to $45,960 for individuals
- $15,510 to $62,040 for a family of 2
- $19,530 to $78,120 for a family of 3
- $23,550 to $94,200 for a family of 4
- $27,570 to $110,280 for a family of 5
- $31,590 to $126,360 for a family of 6
- $35,610 to $142,440 for a family of 7
However, if your employer offers affordable insurance you are not eligible for the lower costs.
