Austin (KXAN) - A breast cancer survivor and her friend celebrating a vision they made a reality. On Sunday they celebrated with a special party.
Three years ago, Susan Lubin, a breast cancer survivor, and her friend, Marcia Levy, had a vision to bring comprehensive breast cancer care to Central Texas patients who needed it.
Together with The Seton Fund, they launched a $6.5 million fundraising campaign to build a new Breast Care Center at Seton Medical Center Austin.
Thanks to the Seton Pink Army, a grassroots fundraising effort launched last year, and generous support from individuals, businesses and the community, the group surpassed its fundraising goal and the new Breast Care Center is slated to open in early 2014.
"Our vision and our goal was that we would organize the entire community, and get the community behind us to raise funds for this comprehensive breast care center, and that's what we've done," said fundraising co-chair Marcia Levy during the "Celebrate" event.
The event featured the AmeriBreasts inflatable display, The Big Pink Bus mobile mammography unit, food booths and music by Sara Hickman and Joe McDermott.
The Breast Cancer Center is part of a 48 million dollar expansion planned at the Seton Medical Center in Austin.
