Help families beat the heat with our Summer Fan Drive!

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- As temperatures continue to climb, it is a reminder that many Austinites don't have a way to beat the heat.

KXAN is proud to partner once again with Family Eldercare for the 28th annual Summer Fan Drive.  With your help, our mission is to bring relief from the heat to Central Texans who cannot afford or do not have air conditioning.

This year, there are even more ways to donate and help our community!

Stop by High 5 Bowling in Lakeway on June 14 from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. Drop off a fan or funds and receive a $5 game card.

Fans From Fans returns June 15 with live music and a pancake breakfast at Threadgill's in downtown Austin. Bring your kids and a box fan donation and enjoy all the family fun from 7 a.m.-1 p.m.

The fun continues June 15 in the evening at Hanovers 2.0 in Round Rock.  From 4 p.m.-8 p.m. enjoy music, drinks and fun as you drop off your fans or funds for a great cause.

With 100-degree heat and no air-conditioning, one fan can lower body temperatures up to 8-9 degrees, which can save a life. In 2017 alone, the Summer Fan Drive distributed 6,740 fans to more than 3,200 households, impacting a total of 9,002 people, including 3,905 Central Texas children.

A simple idea to hand out a few fans with the mission to make the heat safer for seniors back in 1990 has transformed thousands of lives with thousands of fans annually. With the help of our community, we will continue to do so in the future!

The Fan Drive lasts until Aug. 31.
