AUSTIN (KXAN) - Hundreds of bright young ladies spent Saturday exercising their brains.
The girls and their families attended a 'Girlstart STEM' event at their new studio in Northwest Austin.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. It's a program that gives students hands-on learning. The girls designed things like toys, robotics, and roller coasters.
Kenyah Simmons attended the event.
"We've done a lot of science experiments, like testing our parachutes and things like that," she said. "I really love science and the fact that it's just for girls is really good."
The new Girlstart STEM studio will host a monthly star-watching series the first Thursday of each month.
