PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) - The Pflugerville and Austin fire departments brought out their boats overnight Wednesday to evacuate neighbors living along Crooked Creek.
In all, a Capital Metro bus took 31 people to the Northwest Fellowship Church to spend the night.
"Normally, this creek doesn't cause us a lot of problems; it tends to rise and fall quickly, depending on the rain," said Pflugerville Fire Chief Ron Moellenberg.
No one was hurt, and the evacuations were all voluntary. Mia DeNova drove to the area to pick up her family.
"My dad is really stressed, but the floodwater ripped the air conditioning unit off of our house. So I wanted to come and help," said DeNova.
The Red Cross, meanwhile, opened a shelter at Northwest Fellowship Church for the families. The relief agency was providing food, shelter, replacement medications and comfort for those families.
"The Red Cross is in close communications with both Williamson and Hays County emergency management," said spokeswoman Bristel Bowen. "We are prepared to provide assistance for the shelters at Hutto Middle School and Wimberley Community Center if it becomes necessary."
