AUSTIN (KXAN) - Dozens of people spent the day protesting several proposed Charter schools planned for the eastside part of Austin today.
Occupy UT hosted the event with the group the Pride of the Eastside at Kealing Park.
Back in December the Austin Independent School Board voted to allow an in-district Charter program, called IDEA, at Allan Elementary and Eastside Memorial High School.
But some teachers at Allan and Eastside Memorial are concerned where they will be placed when the move happens -- and some parents are choosing not to take part in the charter.
Monday Occupy UT hosted an education forum for students, teachers, parents, and workers to speak about having to deal with the policy, the education policy and decision making by the one percent.
The group plans to host an event Jan. 21 with a guest family from an IDEA charter school from South Texas. It will be at Allan Elementary School, 4900 Gonzales St.
