AUSTIN (KXAN) - Road construction in front of City Hall will slow traffic this weekend. Look for detours in the area.
Saturday morning the cones went up and traffic slowed down.
The eastbound lanes of Cesar Chavez between Lavaca and Colorado Streets will be closed through Sunday.
The inside westbound lane will also be closed, plus one lane on northbound South First Street on the bridge is also closed.
All lanes are expected to reopen late Sunday night before Monday's rush hour.
Crews are working on the crosswalks in front of City Hall to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety. The northbound South First Street curb will be modified to slow right turning vehicles. A large utility box is also being moved.
A new bicycle curb will be installed to help cyclists crossing from the bridge to Lavaca Street.
