AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas has no shortage of racing fans, but the majority are used to watching Nascar.
They'll see a very different kind of racing this week.
There's the obvious oval Nascar track versus the twist and turns of the F1 circuits. F1 defenders said that makes it more important for drivers to marry technology with precision -- adding that they can't simply bully their way to the front.
"That's probably a huge difference between Nascar and Formula 1: Nascar can rub fenders against each other and not really do any damage to their cars," said Formula 1 expert Jim Gewinner. "Maybe they'll get some streaks down their -- down their sides or something. In Formula 1, because it's open wheel they can't play the same way Nascar. You cannot rub shoulders in Formula 1. That's the inherent risk of open wheel."
And the rules are definitely different.
F1 drivers have infractions for passing, or overtaking in certain spots and touching one another.
Nascar isn't allowed to test or collect data, forcing its drivers to rely more on feel and experience rather than computer analysis.
And even the attitudes of the drivers are different, which is what Mobil 1 put to the test -- getting two racing greats from each sport together: Nascar's Tony Stewart and F1's L ewis Hamilton.
