AUSTIN (KXAN) - It is a problem many students face at some point. Now, three Central Texas counselors are diving into the issue of bullying in a new, online talk show aimed at helping kids, teachers and parents.
"It's right there you know in my head just how mean people can be," said Counselor Starr Burgess, who can still recall being bullied in second grade.
Burgess came up with the Counselor Dynamite View concept after authoring several children's books on the topic.
Joining her at the table are two elementary school counselors from Round Rock Crystal Kahle and Jenna Flemming.
The three explain signs to look for in children being bullied:
- grades dropping
- aggressive behavior
- a child who says they don't have any friends
The counselors also give advice for adults -- listen without judgment so children are not scared to tell you when something is wrong.
"This is another tool where we can have this as a resource for parents to access at anytime, any day whether I'm giving a test or I'm helping with another situation on campus," said Flemming.
The videos are free to watch on the Counselor Dynamite website.
"I think sometimes people put price tags on information and we just want to really have that willing and giving heart to be able to help parents and counselors and teachers," said Burgess.
In addition to bullying, there will other videos posted once a month on topics like dealing with trauma and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Viewers can also ask questions on the website and get free answers.
