AUSTIN (KXAN) - Some busy beavers have stalled a development on Wells Branch Parkway in North Austin.
This week, developers applied for an extension on a project to build a warehouse and office space just east of I-35 at 1205 Wells Branch Parkway. That extension was denied by the city's zoning and platting commission.
The original application called for a detention pond on the development site that would hold all ground water runoff displaced by the new structures.
The problem, according to city staffer Lynda Courtney, is beavers have moved in downstream, and now engineers cannot guarantee the quality of the detention pond that was built.
Engineers say they cannot prove the detention pond is functioning properly, because the dam constructed by the beavers is working so well.
The developers plan to appeal their case to city council, Courtney said.
Late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, a light band of freezing drizzle traversed the I-35 corridor eastward. With sub-freezing temperatures, even the light precipitation created major problems.
