AUSTIN (KXAN) - A big turnout today at a "Back-to-School" bash at the Austin Convention Center.
The Austin Independent School District held the event to help families get everything the kids need for school.
Seton Medical Center was also on hand to provide free immunizations to students who needed them.
And, there were also plenty of school supplies - including backpacks - handed out.
One mother there today, Ashley Wainscott, appreciates the program. "I know I was excited to go to school and to get school supplies and I can't imagine going to school empty handed and the look on their faces when they get their purple or orange or blue backpack is priceless."
AISD provided free shuttle service to and from the event from all over Austin to help ensure a big turnout.
Monday is the first day of the new school year.
