AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin police are looking for a man who tried to sexually assault a woman walking at Hart Elementary School in northeast Austin on Saturday morning.
Police said the woman was walking on the back side of the campus around 7:30 a.m. when a man grabbed her and pulled her onto the playground.
The suspect tried to sexually assault the victim but another woman walking nearby stopped him.
"She heard the screams, came around and saw the suspect on top of her and she picked up the phone and called 911," said Michael Crumrine with APD's sex crimes unit.
The victim told detectives she has seen the suspect in the area before.
The suspect is described as:
- Hispanic Male in his 30's
- 5'6" to 5'7"
- 175 lbs.
- Crowded, overlapping teeth
- Black ink tattoos on upper chest, appearing to form a square shape
- Tattoos also on upper arms
- English speaking - no accent
Last seen wearing:
- White t-shirt
- Bermuda-style brown plaid shorts
- Tennis shoes with white socks
The attack at Hart Elementary comes less than three weeks after a woman was sexually assaulted by a stranger on the grounds of Odom Elementary School in south Austin. That suspect, John Therrin Baldwin, 51, was arrested through DNA evidence left at the scene.
Last week, a woman walking on Clawson Road in southeast Austin was grabbed by a stranger, dragged into a wooded area and sexually assaulted. Police do not believe the attacks are related.
