AUSTIN (KXAN) - Austin Police will be patrolling a targeted area in north Austin Saturday focusing on crimes involving narcotics, prostitution and gang-related offenses.
Police will be out in what they describe as "100-percent force" for the "Restore Rundberg Project," beginning Saturday at 9:00 p.m., extending through 3:00 a.m. and again on Sunday
The APD enforcement initiative will focus on Rundberg Lane from Middle Fiskville Road to Lamar Boulevard, including the service road south of Rundberg Lane along IH 35 to Powell Lane across to Lamar Blvd. and will encompass Sam Rayburn Drive.
Police will also be conducting traffic enforcement in the area to decrease crashes and speeding along the heavily traveled intersection of Rundberg Lane and IH 35.
The Austin Police Department Region II command was awarded a $1 million grant from the Department of Justice in 2012, which resulted in the implementation of the Restore Rundberg Project. The project will focus particularly on crime challenges, neighborhood distress and revitalizing the Rundberg neighborhood.
The "100-percent enforcement" will be conducted eight times this year.
