AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Austin school board approved a contingency plan for Eastside Memorial High School Mond ay night, which would only be implemented if the Texas education commissioner decides to shut down the East Austin school.
The board does want to ask the commissioner for an extra year to implement the plan if the decision is mad e to close the campus.
The district continues moving forward with the se arch process for a partner to help turn things around at Eastside. A committee of parents, teachers and community members have narrowed the finalists down to two : Johns Hopkins University and American Institutes for Research.
Representatives from both programs presented their plan at a community meeting at Eastside on Saturday.
The committee will make their final recommendation on a partner by May 6.
