ELGIN, Texas (KXAN) - A confirmation party went from celebration to crime scene on Sunday night after one guest started firing gunshots.
One person was killed and another was injured at the party where more than 50 people were in attendance at the home in Elgin off highway 95.
Police say Pascual Sanchez Carbajal, 48, showed up to the party with Hilarion Avardo Crieta, 42.
The two had been arguing earlier in the day according to witnesses and the arguing came to a head at the party.
Carbajal went to his car to get a .45 caliber pistol according to police. When he returned, he shot Crieta in the back before firing two more shots into the crowd of people.
Crieta was killed and a woman hit by a bullet in the leg was taken to the hospital but her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Witnesses say he then tried to shoot himself, but was restrained and taken to the ground until police arrived.
