AUSTIN (KXAN) - A Texas Longhorn starting receiver is facing criminal chargeslate Wednesday.
Dan Buckner was arrested in College Station on charges ofcriminal trespass and resisting arrest after refusing to leave awoman's apartment in College Station, according to police. Afterthe arrest, Buckner decided to transfer schools.
"We've talked to Dan and his family about his recent situationand they've assured us that he doesn't think he did anything wrongand they're confident that it will be cleared up through the legalprocess," said Mack Brown. "During our discussion with Dan and hisfamily, we all decided that the best thing for him would be totransfer to another school and get a fresh start. We told them thatwe would release him of his scholarship and help him with thetransition process in any way we can. We appreciate everything Danhas done for Texas and our football program and wish him the bestin the future."
Bucker released a statement regarding his decision.
"I want to thank Coach Brown, Coach Kennedy and all of the stafffor everything they've done for me," Buckner said. "I've reallyenjoyed my time at Texas, but we've talked about my situation, andI think it is best for me to get a fresh start and transfer toanother school. I will miss all of my teammates, but will bekeeping up with everyone and always cheering on theLonghorns."
According to Lt. Rodney Sigler of the College Station PoliceDepartment, Buckner was arrested just before 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Sigler said Buckner was visiting a woman when the two got intoan argument - and Buckner reportedly refused to leave. Police saidBuckner called 911, and when police arrived, he continued to refuseto leave after police repeatedly asked him to do so.
The officers wrote Buckner a report for criminal trespass butSigler said he still refused to leave, so police took him intocustody.
At that point, police said Buckner resisted arrest. He wasreleased on $8,000 bail. Buckner is a sophomore from Allen,Texas.
