AUSTIN (KXAN) - Julien Lewis said Tuesday he would be transferring from the University of Texas, following the Longhorns 16-18 season. The university announced later in the day Lewis has been granted his release.
The sophomore was Texas' third-leading scorer behind Myck Kabongo and Sheldon McClellan last season. Kabongo announced in April he would be entering the NBA Draft and McClellan told school officials in March that he would transfer.
Sophomore Jaylen Bond also announced his decision to transfer from UT in March.
Lewis averaged 11.2 points per game in 26.9 minutes per game during the 2012-13 season. He saw action in all but one game and was in the starting lineup 21 times.
He played in 32 of 34 games as a freshman, and started 25 games. The La Marque High School product and Galveston, Texas native came to Texas ranked among the Top 100 high school players in multiple publications.
The 2012-13 season marked the first time in Rick Barnes' 15 years as head coach at Texas that the Longhorns did not reach the NCAA tournament. Instead, Texas settled for a bid to the College Basketball Invitational, where they lost to Houston in the opening round.
