AUSTIN (KXAN) - Cordon Bleu Chef Aimee Olson was in studio on Saturday morning to demonstrate the best ways to make holiday gingerbread houses.
Here's a simple recipe she gave us for making dough:
Gingerbread Dough for Houses
· ½ pound butter
· ½ pound brown sugar
· ½ pound molasses
· 2 pounds 3 ounces all-purpose flour
· 1.5 eggs
· 0.5 ounce cinnamon
· 0.5 ounce ginger
· ¼ ounce clove
· 1/8 ounce salt
· 0.5 pint or as needed of water
Yield: 1 medium gingerbread house (1/2 sheet base board).
In a standing mixer using the paddle attachment, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add in the molasses and mix till all combined. Then, slowly add eggs until all ingredients are combined.
Combine the rest of the dry ingredients in a separate bowl. Add the mixture to the standing mixer a little at a time until combined. After all the dry ingredients are incorporated, slowly add enough water to make the dough soft but not sticky.
Chill for one hour or more before baking. Bake until golden brown and set.
