GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) -- An alert is being sent out across a Georgetown neighborhood after a homeowner was tied up and robbed while taking out his trash.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Office says the robbery happened late Tuesday night in the Escalera Ranch subdivision off of Leander Road. Police say when the victim opened his garage door to take out the trash, two men wearing ski masks and gloves approached him and pointed a gun at him. The suspects told the homeowner to open his gun safe, and forced him to the ground where they tied his hands and feet.
The suspects then stole guns from the safe, ransacked the home and took off with the victim's car. In an email to residents, the HOA stated the victim was able to untie himself and run to a neighbor for help. The statement also indicated the stolen vehicle was found in Austin a few hours later.
"Nothing like that has ever happened in the four years I've been out here," said Blake Betts who lives in the neighborhood.
"It was more concerning still to have it have been across the street," said another neighbor, Ed Hanzlik who's now more aware of his surroundings. "Being more observant, having the house alarm on when we're inside the house, being more cautious."
Investigators are still trying to determine if the victim was targeted. For the people in the neighborhood, they're just hoping police find the suspects soon.
"I hope Williamson County Sheriff's department is able to find the people who did this and bring them to justice before they can do it again to somebody else," said Betts.
At this point, detectives have not linked this incident with another robbery and home invasion that happened last week Wednesday in Northwest Austin. In the Austin case, investigators say two men dressed as utility workers knocked on the door of a home on Ledge Mountain Drive, forced their way inside and tied up a woman. The suspects also got away with guns.
