AUSTIN (KXAN) - In what police are calling Austin's sixth homicide of the year,officials identified a body found over the weekend as BiancaMaldonado, 17.
The LBJHigh School student was found dead inside the East Austinapartment complex located at
Austin policeinitially responded to assist an EMS call at HuntingtonMeadows apartment complex Sunday morning, but they found muchmore. Maldanado's mother arrived home around 6:52a.m. and policesay called 911, after discovering her daughter's body.
"Ms. Maldanado suffered traumatic injury to her body," saidDetective Joseph Chacon, with the Austin Police Department. "Rightnow I don't want to talk about how she was killed, but this wasclearly a murder."
There was no forced entry, so police fear she may have known herattacker. Maldonado's son was in the apartment at the time of theattack.
"There was a one year old child that was injured," saidDetective Chacon. "The child did not suffer life threateninginjuries, but was transported to the hospital and is stable."
Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what led tothe teen's death.
Meanwhile, residents in the apartment complex said they hearabout a lot of robberies and were not surprised to see police inthe area.
Police claim they have people of interest they areinvestigating.
