LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) - The level on Lake Travis has risen 6 feet since the rains began this week, and it has a lot of people on the lake quite busy.
Travis is a fluctuating lake, usually 40 feet a year, on average. This week it rose several feet, which that means for those who own personal docks or run a large marina, they have to adjust to the changing elevations.
At the Reserve Marina on Lake Travis, which has 150 slips, crews have been hard at work.
"We've put in a total of 100 man-hours in just the last couple of days," said Mike Brooks, manager of Reserve Marina. "Just to raise the marina, bring it in with the rise in the lake, we're able to move our marina back in. Also tend to the flood issues, our biggest rise is about 6 inches in an hour. [It's a] a steady rise that's pretty manageable."
Brooks said his crew had to detach the marina from the golf cart gangway and move it out approximately 50 feet.
"We had to build a new set of stairs and new gangway to access it," he said. "Fortunately with the rains the last few days we've been able to bring the marina in and reattach our golf cart gangway, so we're sitting good."
