BURNET, Texas (KXAN) - The Texas Commission on Jail Standards is expected to issue theBurnet County jail a citation for failing to make hourly checks ofinmates, a requirement under state law.
Nuana Antonio Fuentes-Sanchez, 23, escaped from the jail onSunday night. He was being held in lieu of $200,000 bond inconnection with a violent home invasion on April 14.
According to Adan Munoz, executive director of the TexasCommission on Jail Standards, the agency sent an inspector outWednesday morning to see if the jail violated any minimum standardsthat might have led to the jail break.
The inspector found one violation. The jail did not complete therequired check of inmates every hour. Once the inmates came in fromoutdoor recreation between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., the next cellcheck was not done until 11 p.m. State law requires an hourlycheck.
The TCJS inspector met with the sheriff and the county judge toinform them of the violation this afternoon. The state will bewriting up the violation and sending it to them by Friday. Thecounty will have to create a plan of action to fix the problem andkeep it from happening again.
