AUSTIN (KXAN) - Fans of the NBC singing competition "The Voice" have another local performer to cheer.
One of two Austinites on the show this season, singer Lex Land advanced with a soulful performance last Monday. Her version of Bonnie Raitt's "Can't Make You Love Me" earned praise from the judges.
Just seconds into the song, judges Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine spun their chairs around -- signaling that they wanted Land on their team.
Country singer Blake Shelton waited until the chorus to make his turn. But, Land went with him when choosing which team to work with in her hopes of advancing.
Land is an established singer-songwriter. Her original songs have appeared on television shows such as "Private Practice," "One Tree Hill" and "Castle," among others.
She is very passionate about her work at an Austin girl's rock camp where she helps young women in their musical endeavors.
Land is a huge Judy Garland fan who said she loves cooking and playing the ukulele.
Land appeared live on KXAN News Today and performed live Monday afternoon on KXAN News at Noon.
"It's a really exciting opportunity to be on NBC's The Voice and I'm really excited about how far I've gotten," Land said Monday. "I would tell anyone auditioning for Season 3 to just really be themselves and be as much of a go-getter throughout the process as possible. They really want to see that, and The Voice is really good about showing the audience who an artist really is. And the best way to stick in someone's mind is to really be yourself throughout the audition process."
