65 pounds of meth found during traffic stop on I-35

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- Sheriff's deputies in Williamson County have seized 65 pounds of methamphetamine following a traffic stop on Interstate 35, last Thursday.

The estimated street value of the seized meth: $3 million.

A deputy was driving northbound when he saw a blue truck commit unspecified traffic violations. The deputy stopped the truck, driven by 53-year-old Jose Cabrera, in the 3000 block of I-35 at around 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 4, just north of Georgetown.

His wife, Maria Salazar Cabrera, 49, was in the passenger seat. Jose Cabrera said they lived in Laredo and and were driving to Dallas. The deputy grew suspicious during the traffic stop and asked the driver for permission to search his vehicle, which he agreed to. The meth was found hidden under the rear seat of the truck.

Cash in the amount of $2,920 was also seized from the couple. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Williamson County Jail. Bond has been set at $500,000.
