AUSTIN (KXAN) - Even before the glow of Austin's first Formula One race had a chance to fade, college football's Big 12 Conference announced that the University of Texas will play Oklahoma State University on the same weekend as next year's F1 race here.
The back-to-back events are each likely to bring in more than 100,000 fans. The football game will be Saturday, Nov. 16, the same day as the F1 qualifying trials, and the race is scheduled for the next day.
Last weekend's inaugural F1 weekend was timed to coincide with a bye week for the Longhorns, which gave the international race the field to itself as Austin welcomed the new Circuit of The Americas track with a full weekend of music and other events in a big section of Downtown.
The three-day Fan Fest and the three days of activities as the track well east of Downtown brought an estimated 300,000 people to the city. Buses and trains adopted near around-the-clock schedules to help get race fans and festival-goers to their destinations.
The city and event organizers received high marks to handling the logistics with minimal delays.
