First Warning Weather 7 Day Forecast
    Hi 81 F
Lo 65 F

A welcome break in the frequent severe weather episodes is forecast for Central Texas over the next few days.

While we could still see a shower or thunderstorm, the severe storm risk has shifted south and east of our area.

An area of low pressure aloft will continue to send weak waves of instability across Texas through the weekend, but with little moisture or a surface front to work with, rain showers should only be widely scattered in our area.

Forecast for the Austin Metro Area

Tonight: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 61. North wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. North northeast wind around 10 mph.

Severe Weather Warnings To Get More Specific About Location
You've no doubt seen it on KXAN and heard Jim Spencer and his team talking about it on the air during this winter storm -- a storm warning covering an entire county. But some counties are huge, meaning certain people are nowhere near the impending tornado, flash flood or thunderstorm. So the National Weather Service is about to change things.
