AUSTIN (KXAN) - More quality. Less space. That's what a man in Seattle had in mind when fitting eight different living spaces in a home with only 182 square feet.
Steve Sauer said he likes to push efficiency limits, and you can tell by everything he managed to pack in. He's actually an engineer with expertise in designing airplane interiors at Boeing.
Sauer said he found the subterranean space storage unit in the basement of a century-old Seattle coop and quickly realized it had potential as living quarters.
In mind, he had a 22-year-old bicycle messenger living in the city with only eight pieces of clothing and almost nothing else.
The space is called Pico Dwelling because "pico" is an extremely small unit of measure -- one-trillionth, to be exact.
"The final project shows off Sauer's dedication to quality and custom finishes, and it was a labor of love," reads the video's post. "It took seven years to complete and two years to get permitted.
"Today, Sauer has the permits and a certificate of occupancy for his tiny home, and he would love to take what he's learned and create an entire building of high-end microapartments."
